Mike has worked on the family farm most of his life in Verona. He and Shirley have two grown boys.
He is glad to have time for vacation since he doesn't milk every day.

Days in the Field
Mike and his brother worked together on the family farm. They were dairy farmers until 2014. They now crop farm and raise steers.

Family Farm Driveway
The family farm is located in a unique location-over the Sugar River (sometimes under) and within viewing of the city of Verona along with EPIC.
Mike has witnessed many changes to the area from this location.

Dead Car Zone from the 2018 Flood
The family vehicles were parked at the end of the driveway because that is what we do when the Sugar River floods. We drive the tractor over the flooded driveway to get to the cars so everyone can go to work.
On Tuesday everything flooded! Four vehicles were underwater! Mike was able to orchestrate the purchase of four vehicles by the end of the week.

Random Farmer Talk
Even while on vacation Mike is working. He likes to visit random farmers to talk about farming. This farmer he found in Arkansas.
Time for golf
It's not all work. Miniature golf was fun to do while on vacation.

Community Involvement
Mike attends various community and area meetings. He supports the people of these organizations with his unique talents and skills.
Teaching Farm Safety to the Kids
Mike is skillful with group interactions. He likes to teach kids farm safety and agriculture during Safety Camp put on by the Oregon Police Department.

Holiday Food Drive
Farm Bureau Board Director, Mike Duerst, delivered 84 pounds of food to the Badger Prairie Needs Network in Verona after the Dane County Farm Bureau holiday meeting.
